-V-자마자(as soon as)

-V-자마자(as soon as)

The grammar pattern 'V-자마자' is used in Korean to indicate that an action or event happens immediately after another action or event. It can be translated as 'as soon as', 'right after', or 'immediately after' in English.

To use this pattern, you need to take the verb stem and add '-자마자' at the end. Here are some examples:

  • 일어나다 (to get up) → 일어나자마자 (as soon as I get up)
  • 출발하다 (to depart) → 출발하자마자 (as soon as we depart)
  • 공부하다 (to study) → 공부하자마자 (as soon as I study)

Note that the verb stem in 'V-자마자' ends in the consonant '-ㄴ' when the verb stem ends in a vowel, and '-는' when the verb stem ends in a consonant.
